Clean Water, Air & Soil
|
|
By recycling used motor oil/ Petroleum products, citizens can keep waste out of rivers, lakes, streams and even ground water. In many cases that means keeping it out of your drinking water, off the beaches, and away from wild life.
Recycling the motor oil/ Petroleum products from one liter oil change protects a million gallons of drinking water – or a year’s supply for 50 people |

Oil For the Future – Save Energy and a Resource
|
|
Motor oil / Petroleum products don’t wear out. It just gets dirty as it circulates through your engine it picks up a variety of contaminants and becomes dirty or used and needs to be replaced. If you are one of the millions of do-it-yourselfers who drops off your oil at a collection center, you are saving a valuable energy resource - you are conserving energy for future generations. For example, if one gallon of used motor oil is reprocessed and burned as fuel, it will generate enough electricity to power everything in your home for a day. Recycling also serves to help us reduce dependency on foreign oil imports. |
| |
Recycling used oil - how does that work?
|
|
Used motor oil can be re-refined into lubricating oils that meets the same API certification and specifications as new or virgin motor oil thus conserving energy resources for the future.
Energy Facts - Two gallons of used motor oil can provide enough electricity to run the average household for about a day, or....
Cook 48 meals on a Gas Stove
- Run 1 Ton Air-conditioner for 4 hours
- Vacuum your house for 15 months
- Watch television for 180 hours.

Challenges we (Recyclers) face
|
|
In 1991 India produced 100 Metric ton of Used Oil. The Indian Institute of Petroleum estimated that the Indian lube market consumes around 1,000,000 tones of lube oil annually, out of which about 65% is utilized by the automotive sector as engine crankcase oil, hypoid gear oil, etc. Used oil potential from automotive sources is estimated to be about 25-35% of total supplies. This can generate over 100,000 tones of re-refined oil. Please carefully note the table below and note that re-refining has had been declining since 1995. Used Oil has had been disposed unsafely hurting the environment severely since 1995.
- The "root" cause is the failure of economic/business model. The enforcement on storage units (military, public and private) is inadequate. The Used Oil prices have skyrocketed since 1995 as it has had been illegally used / burnt. As the price of the raw material (used oil for recyclers) becomes high and availability extremely difficult, the business model to re-refine it becomes extremely challenging. If the raw material to an industry is not easily available AND the raw material is banned to be imported, while virgin oil has virtually no customs duty to favor multi-national oil firms AND the enforcement is not there for unsafe disposal AND there is adulteration by corrupt staff/management of storage units, quite obviously it is extremely challenging for used oil recyclers to survive in India. It requires a separate business unit just to acquire used oil.
- Action and reaction are equal and opposite. The dent to the 'mother nature' will be observed by the citizens through pollution, water quality and trees. Citizens and the next generation may face unique and unknown 'incurable' diseases.
- We humbly request the Government of India to immediately allow limited import (with a pre-defined quota) of used oil (per specification laid out by the CPCB) to licensed used oil re-refiners (aka recyclers). The import will reduce (possibly remove) the price arbitrage for storage depots to dispose it unsafely or to adulterate it. If the used oil is adulterated then the recycler can file a complaint and has options to purchase elsewhere to keep the plant running. The import will also help destroy the stockiest (traders that illegally stock and trade in used oil including corrupting the staff of producers of used oil) that are manipulating the market.
- We badly need strict enforcement and awareness of laws to the local authorities and industries, so they are aware about laws relating to used oiil.

USED LUBE OIL/WASTE OIL RE-REFINING
|
|
Used Oil or Used Motor Oil also called Black Oil that comes out of Motor Vehicles contains metal particles and impurities, which when extracted and resulting oil mixed with additives becomes equivalent to virgin motor
will refined from crude oil. Mother Nature recycles everything, However Black Oil is dangerous for our waters, greenery and eco-system. It can not and must not be thrown by anyone. It is against the local/state and federal laws to discharge or to burn black oil in a manner other than specified by Pollution Control Board or EPA. Technology exists today to completely recycle Used Oil in an environmentally friendly way and utilize each by-product in a safe manner.
Toshi Group of Industries' waste management uses the same technology used for Crude Oil Refining. Our technology purposely does not use any acid or any solvent of any type in the “input stream” to avoid any unknown environmental contamination. We use a combination of Temperature, Pressure, Density, Gravity, Centripetal and Centrifugal Force to separate Inorganic Atoms (or Compounds) from Organic-Hydrocarbons. The Hydrocarbons are separated based on density (Diesel, Kerosene, Neutral-500, Neutral-300, Neutral-100) and the Asphalt.
Re-refiners in India save millions in foreign currency for the country every year. Re-refiners not only balance the prices (through demand and supply) of lube oils but also help protect the environmental resources through safe collection, transportation and discharge of by-products by chemical processes and extraction. This helps a country become self sufficient as far as Lube Oil is concerned. |
